Samuel kaboo Morris was an Liberian prince of the kru or khran tribe who converted to Christianity. when he was 14, he was kippnaped by the grebos. he was used as a pawn, meaning the kru would have to bring them presents everyday to get kaboo back. his father the chief would bring something every month. Finally, the kru ran out of things to give and kaboo was beaten every day. one night, during one of his beatings, there was a flash of light that told kaboo to flee. his ropes fell of and his sick body gained strength. he wandered for days in the jungle and finally came to a farmers coffee plantation. he had nothing to eat but snails and mangos. kaboo worked with a slave boy before coming to America. one missionary told him about Christians. he asked where she learned and she told her to meet a man in new York named Stephen Merritt. he prayed to get on a ship to new York. two crew members of the tramp ship accepted him on board. when he arrived on the ship, he was disliked and abused but he converted them to Christianity too. kaboo attended Taylor university and changed his name to Samuel Morris. he met Stephen and was invited to live at his house. he told Stephen everything that happened. together, Samuel and Stephen went to preach the word of Christ Jesus. he wanted to go back to Liberia to preach but came down with an illness called pneumonia that wouldn't shake. god had explained why his illness wouldn't go away. his work on earth was done and it was time for him to come home. his last words were "It is not my work, Dr. Reade. It is His. I have finished my job. He will send
others better than I to do the work in Africa". Samuel died at age 20 and all of his fellow students attended his funeral. and many went to Africa to preach.
